CPC Responds to W5 Episode Relating to RCMP In-custody Deaths
A recent broadcast of CTV W5 covered aspects of three high-profile in-custody death cases involving the RCMP. CPC conducted investigations into all three cases. While W5 focused on very limited aspects of the Kevin St Arnaud and Ian Bush cases, readers are invited to review the full CPC reports for themselves. The Commission fully stands by these reports.
While CPC has finalized its investigation into the death of Robert Dziekanski, its findings are currently being reviewed by the RCMP. The Commission will publicly release its full report in the coming weeks.
The Commission has called for an end to the practice of the RCMP investigating its own officers involved in cases involving death or serious injury. A comprehensive public report was released in August 2009.
