RCMP Best Practices

RCMP Exemplary Conduct and Service to the Public

The CPC is frequently advised of RCMP member conduct which exemplifies the high standards expected of all police in Canada. In many instances, RCMP members have demonstrated their professionalism in very challenging circumstances. In the coming months, the CPC will be posting information about instances of such exemplary conduct which may be considered as "best practices" by other police officers.

CPC Position on Public Complaint Process

Aimed at making the public complaint process work better, the CPC will be publishing its guidelines on various aspects of the public complaint process.

In addition, reviews and investigations into public complaints about police conduct not only uncover concerns about individual member behaviour, they also produce valuable lessons for policing policy and practice. This means the police complaints system can operate as a powerful tool for improving policing.

The CPC will be publishing a series of articles on various issues which have consistently resulted in complaints from the public. These articles are not proposing to provide RCMP members with legal advice or override RCMP policy. Rather, the purpose is to share the CPC's perspective on these important issues, and the lessons that can be learned in this area from the civilian public complaint review process.
