APEC – Commission Interim Report
In November 1997, Canada hosted the week-long Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference in Vancouver, with high-ranking delegates from throughout the Asia Pacific region. On the last day of the conference, leaders and their senior advisors were to meet in a retreat-like setting at the Museum of Anthropology on the campus of the University of British Columbia. The RCMP was responsible for security. The conference dates were November 19 – 25.
There were demonstrations by students and others against the regimes of some of the APEC members and protesters and police came into conflict. The actions of the RCMP in response to the protesters are the subject of 52 formal complaints and those complaints are the subject of this report.
