Interim Chair

Mr. Ian McPhail, Q.C.

McPhail, Ian

Ian McPhail established McPhail Law in 1972. He attended Bishop's University in Quebec for his Bachelor of Arts degree and accomplished his Bachelor of Laws degree at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. He was appointed a federal Queen's Counsel in 1992.

In 1999, Mr. McPhail put his private practice on hold to serve on the boards of various organizations where he worked to protect the public interest. He has served as Chair of the Environmental Review Tribunal, Chair of the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario, and Acting Chair of the Ontario Educational Communications Authority (TV Ontario). Among his many community activities, Mr. McPhail took on the positions of Vice-President of the Toronto Chinese Community Services Association, and President of the Cabbagetown South Community Association.

He was a recipient of the Ontario Bicentennial Medal as recognition of his achievements.

Mr. McPhail returned to his private law practice in 2004, which now holds a special emphasis on personal legal issues, including real estate, wills and estate planning and administration, and business issues. He was appointed as interim Chair on January 18, 2010.
